This project involved the reconstruction and realignment of the intersection of TH 246 at CSAH 1 / CR 81 in the City of Northfield. Due to increasing traffic volumes and past accident history, Mn/DOT District 6, pursued an Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) to compare feasible intersection control options for existing and projected traffic volumes to alleviate potential capacity constraints and improve safety. Stonebrooke's role was to provide an optimized preliminary design layout for all roundabout alignment options at the intersection of TH 246 and CSAH 1/CR 81. Three alternative layouts included items such as alignment, geometrics, profile, construction limits, proposed Right of Way and roundabout curves, and turning movement data. In addition a report detailing existing and proposed traffic operations, safety review, cost comparison review and area environmental and design constraints for all intersection options and alternatives was provided.
