Stonebrooke Engineering awarded trail reconstruction project in Hennepin County

Hennepin County is working with the Cities of Orono, Tonka Bay and Shorewood to complete a concept level design plan for an off-road multipurpose trail along County Road 19 linking the Dakota Rail Trail with the Southwest Regional Trail. Stonebrooke Engineering is part of the local team of experts selected for this project. The project limits for this study extend approximately 3.4 miles along the County Road 19 Corridor from County Road 15 in the City of Orono south to Smithtown Road in the City of Shorewood.

Three Rivers Park District will begin construction of the Dakota Rail Trail during the 2008 construction season. This trail will be constructed on an existing abandoned freight rail corridor owned by the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority (HCRRA). The trail will extend the entire length of the corridor within Hennepin County from the City of Wayzata to the City of St. Bonifacius. The Dakota Rail Corridor follows County Road 15 for much of its length. This new trail will likely increase the number of bike riders on County Road 19 wishing to make a connection from the Southwest Regional Trail to the south to the new Dakota Rail Trail.

The Southwest Regional Trail is a multiuse trail that was constructed in a former freight rail corridor between the City of Hopkins and the Carver Park Reserve in the City of Victoria. Like the Dakota Rail Trail, the corridor is owned by the HCRRA and the trail was constructed and is maintained by Three Rivers Park District.
